Botswana Insurance Company (BIC)

Incorporated in 1975, BIC is a leader in Botswana’s short-term insurance industry. 

BIHL Group

In 2018, BIHL had 83.1% of the total assets in the industry. Sanlam, a South African insurance company, has a 59% shareholding in BIHL. 

Insurance classes

The long-term domestic insurance business in Botswana offers five types of insurance classes: life insurance, disability insurance, health insurance, fund business, and sinking fund business. 

Karabo Funeral Plan

In September 2023, Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC) and Hollard launched the Karabo Funeral Plan. This policy is designed for people with little or no access to bank accounts.
