Salungano Group Limited is a coal-focused mining company incorporating mining, processing, selling and distribution of coal and coal-related products.

We started as a coal trading company but quickly established and grew our coal mining division, now the more significant part of our business. The company has become a strong cash generator and has delivered shareholder returns through dividends and share buy-backs. Salungano Group has been and will remain substantially invested in coal. However, it will be a reducing component of our investment portfolio as we mine the reserves at our existing coal mines.

Salungano Group is committed to a just energy transition, evolving into a diversified investment group underpinned by ESG as we responsibly mine our current coal resources.

We are proud of the role that we have played in helping our country meet its energy needs and look forward to playing an even more significant part in contributing to South Africa’s future energy mix. We understand the need to respond to the climate crisis that the world is currently facing while balancing the energy requirements to grow our developing economy. We further understand that the move to less carbon-emitting technologies must, as far as possible, not leave workers and communities in affected areas in a worse off position. Therefore, the balancing act required to manage these challenges has dictated our future strategy, which will focus on investments in diverse complementary sectors.
